Put Some Shoes On

“The logbook entry for today would read: ‘Errands. Exceedingly dull.’ Brandy, a creature of habit and comfortable boat life, viewed leaving the vessel with the same enthusiasm one reserves for a root canal. However, a tiny, furry dictator named Katniss had other plans. Apparently, the queen of the Chasing Destiny had decided that her human subject was becoming too… boat-like.

Katniss, with the unwavering conviction of a seasoned socialite, staged a series of increasingly dramatic interventions. First, the pointed stares at Brandy’s bare feet. Then, nudges towards the shoes. Finally, a full-blown protest involving mournful whimpers and pointed glances towards shore at passing pedestrians with (gasp!) footwear.

Brandy, held hostage by puppy-dog eyes and the sheer absurdity of the situation, finally gave up. The reintroduction to the ‘civilized world’ involved a comical waddle down the dock, her feet protesting the flip flops on her feat. Each step was a tiny rebellion against her preferred barefoot existence. Katniss, meanwhile, trotted ahead, tail held high, clearly pleased with her success in dragging her human back into polite (and shoed) society. The errands themselves were as thrilling as anticipated, punctuated only by Brandy’s internal monologue about the injustices of footwear and Katniss’s occasional smug glances that seemed to say, ‘See? This isn’t so bad, is it, Shoeless?’ 🦶🏻🦶🏻”
