Catch of the Day

Brandy woke up this morning with a pang of ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ tinged with a little sadness, missing her Destiny Jade Guster. But her heart soon softened as she looked over at the next best thing: her sweet, fluffy shadow, Katniss the Shih Tzu. It was a glorious morning, perfect for tackling that most glamorous of boat chores: laundry!

With the enthusiasm of someone who’s been putting it off, Brandy washed all the little boat rugs and proudly hung them along the side of the Chasing Destiny to dry. That’s when the horror struck. A quick rug count revealed a deficit. Three AWOL rugs! 😱 A dramatic palm-to-forehead slap ensued, followed by frantic scanning. O.M.G. There they were, merrily floating away like rogue lily pads!

Adrenaline surged. Forget leisurely Mother’s Day! Brandy was in the dinghy faster than you can say the word dinghy, hauling serious you-know-what to intercept her fleeing floor coverings. The rogue rugs, however, were putting up a fight. The toughest one, in particular, seemed determined to make a clean break for the open water, battling Brandy like a surprisingly strong jack . She had to maneuver the dinghy so close to the seawall, praying she wouldn’t hear that dreaded scraping sound of motor meeting concrete. Victory was eventually hers, three soggy but rescued rugs piled triumphantly in the dinghy.

As the day drew to a close, Mother Nature decided to put on her own dramatic show. A crazy Florida storm rolled in, complete with booming thunder, flashing lightning, and torrential rain – like a nice shower by downpour for any boating greenhorns who happened to be watching. Brandy, however, was just glad all her rugs were safely back on board, a slightly damp but victorious end to a memorable Mother’s Day.
