The Floater

Six days alone on the boat had been an adventure, but seeing Greg’s smiling face was the best sight.

“We survived!” Brandy cheered as he stepped aboard, pulling her into a tight hug. Katniss, not to be outdone, wiggled her way in for her share of attention.

It was Father’s Day, a perfect excuse for a new adventure. “How about we sail to Hope Town?” Greg suggested, his eyes already scanning the horizon. Brandy loved the idea. Hope Town was always a favorite, with its iconic lighthouse and charming village.

Greg, a true sailing enthusiast, immediately got to work. He was eager to test out some adjustments he’d made to the sails, getting the Chasing Destiny ready for the upcoming Mother Tub Regatta race. The sails unfurled gracefully, catching the gentle breeze, and soon they were gliding across the turquoise waters. It was a beautiful sail, smooth and exhilarating, with the sun warm on their faces and the rhythmic splash of waves against the hull.

As they approached Hope Town, the vibrant colors of the settlement came into view. Greg expertly maneuvered the Chasing Destiny, and they dropped anchor just outside the harbor. As was his custom, Greg, ever the meticulous sailor, decided to dive the anchor to ensure it was securely set.

He slipped into the water, mask and snorkel in place, and began his descent. Brandy watched from the deck, idly sipping her coffee.

Brandy shouted, barely able to speak because of laughing so hard, her eyes wide with amusement. “You just bumped into a turd!” she managed to gasp.

Greg frantically splashed around, unable to see it. Brandy was still roaring with laughter. “It’s trying to cling to your back… the rarest fish in the world, the round brown floater fish!”

Greg finally made his way back onto the boat and saw it – a small, brown, rather unidentifiable object bobbing innocently nearby. His eyes widened, and a burst of laughter escaped his lips.
